Sven,

Unless you're very experienced with computers and have someone to help walk
you through your first major data recovery, I wouldn't recommend trying it
yourself. There are lots of ways to mess it up if you don't know what you're
doing, and even if you do know what you're doing, there's no guarantee as to
exactly what you'll get back, so I always recommend going with a
professional for major data losses.

Kiernan, the Head Technician of Green Earth Computers, can likely help you
with attempting to retrieve your lost data.

If you try to do it yourself, you'll need expensive software, a second
external hard drive on which you'll put the info from the drive you're
recovering, and a whole lot of time. However, if you do choose to try it
yourself, Kiernan would also be able to recommend the best software to use.
