[Hidden-tech] Social networking platform provider?

i find that if i have a strong interest in the community, and if there's a reason for me to be there, I'll gladly visit a Ning site and deal with the usability issues.  

Sometimes the issue with Ning communities isn't Ning's interface, but what is (or, more likely, isn't) going on in the community.

 clear proof of the old adage "different strokes for different folks"... 

again, here are two examples of flourishing and effective ning sites:
 valleyshare (open network) and allthingswilliamsburg.ning.com


I don't think ning sites are "totally awesome" but they do work pretty seamlessly and they're fairly user friendly...
