Like Don, I am not a tax expert. In fact I forgot more than I know about
taxes now that my CPA has been preparing them for many years. So if I am
wrong here, someone let me know.

However, as a sole proprietor (LLC), there is a line on the first page of my
1040 (self-employment health insurance deduction) where my health insurance
costs are subtracted from my gross income to create my adjusted gross

I believe that saves self-employed individuals lots of money by reducing
their taxable income considerably.

Too bad. Can your business buy insurance (from a Chamber of Commerce or some
other group)? That way it is a business expense and comes off your taxes?
I'm no tax expert, but I'd look into that route. The Noho chamber is about
$300 per year, but there are other perks and you can compare the total cost
of health care + Chamber to whatever else you are offered.

well unfortunately, here is the answer: I am not eligible for getting health
insurance at pretax dollars (only employees of mine would be)..I'm beginning
to think my four legged friend, Maggie, would be a wonderful secretary!
