How about an old-fashioned, stand up drawing or drafting table. Mine is adjustable for height and angle and has a lip at the bottom edge so things don't roll or slide off onto the floor. I have a tall stool I sit on sometimes but it was made so that you could work standing up too. I don't know how portable your computer is, but my laptop sits comfortably on my table when I want it to. When my step daughter has trouble with her back she puts her laptop on one of her (open) dresser drawers. But she only does that once in a while, it's not a permanent solution.
