I understand Crocker Communications (which is *local*) is very good. I
know of one Leverett citizen who swears by them for DSL -- they got DSL
going for him, after Verizon said that DSL was not even possible!

Verizon is actually looking to get completely OUT of the landline phone
business.  Their CEO is looking at bundling Video and Cell phone
services (even digital phone over FIOS is not something Verizon is
really interested in and they really don't want to run FIOS out in the
sticks at all).
