[Hidden-tech] AT&T Wireless service quality

I made the switch from Verizon to AT&T/iPhone in June and live in
Amherst. Over 5 years with Verizon (Windows Mobile phone) I *never*
had a dropped call. Not one. There was *no* area in the valley where
I did not have both data and voice service.

With AT&T I have a dropped a call/week. In my house, in the middle of
town, on any given day I could have 5 full bars of 3G service or 1 bar
of non-3G service - from the *same* exact location. I get *no*
service when inside any large store: Target, Whole Foods, etc. When
I'm in Manhattan, especially below Houston, I'll get a full 5 bars 3G
- but no data connectivity at all. I've heard this is a commonly
known problem - AT&T just doesn't have the data bandwidth to support
the demand. Interestingly I've now had the same problem in Amherst
now and then since the students have returned during September.

So. That all being said, with AT&T being the non-network (for me
anyway), I am still happy I made the switch overall. The iPhone is
such a great device and has increased my productivity even with the
crappy network.

I will say, that the day the iPhone is available on Verizon, I will
gladly switch back and pay to break the contract...
