Not to argue, but I've had quite a different experience with GoDaddy. I've used them for hosting and domain registration for about 4-5 years now and find them to be one of the best solutions I've ever used. And I've used a ton of solutions. I would disagree with every example listed below. Maybe it's because I do use them that I know they do have SSH if you aren't using a shared solution, they won't ban your IP if you work on more than one file or lots of files, they don't have any ads on their actual control panels, I do agree they don't have stats but since Google Analytics, who uses provider stats????, I also know they handle PHP and MYSQL very well. We run nearly 150 website on two shared hosting plans all using PHP, ASP, and MYSQL. All run very well even with heavier traffic. Again, I don't want to start an argument, just relate from someone that uses them exclusively that they aren't this evil empire. Cheesy maybe, but not evil. GoDaddy might not be the end all, but for the price point on the services they offer, they provide everything they promise and more and I find the fact that their customer service is responsive and based in the US makes it that much sweater. -----Original Message----- From: hidden-discuss-bounces at lists.hidden-tech.net [mailto:hidden-discuss-bounces at lists.hidden-tech.net] On Behalf Of J. I don't know about GoDaddy domain registration, but their hosting is among the worst. If you have a web designer/developer GoDaddy will make their life very difficult. Example reasons: * no SSH (insecure) * GoDaddy will ban your IP if you try to edit more than one file over FTP at the same time, and sometimes banning IPs just for downloading a lot of files with Filezilla (e.g., backing up a site) * Too many ads in the control panel * No free server-side stats, you have to pay extra for a feature that most hosts offer for free * Servers can't handle Drupal well (if you use Drupal or PHP/MySQL it's not going to handle large traffic spikes) _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
