[Hidden-tech] Copying machine question

I am reading this post a bit belatedly. My own recent experience requires
that I warn you away from Xerox. We had a Xerox PE-120 multifunction machine
that we bought as a refurb directly from the X men. I expected it to be a
workhorse that should last quite a while in a small office environment.
About a month ago, it decided that it was "out of toner", even when I
replaced the cartridge multiple times. You would think that this would be a
simple "reset", right? No way. It took 12 days for X's tech support to even
reply to my trouble ticket, and then I actually got through to a live
person. Either way, their only solution was that I could spend something
like $320.00 for the first half hour of on-site service, with no guarantee
of a repair. The tech on the phone offered to send me a new toner cartridge,
but I declined his offer. That would be like getting a new tire for a car
that doesn't run.

As long as this machine thought that it was out of toner, it would not
print, make copies, or allow you to print incoming faxes. Anybody want a
very big scanner ... cheap? That's about the only component that remains
functional, along with the ability to send out faxes.

I bought a replacement from Staples.com. It is a Brother MFC-7440N. It was
on sale for $249.00, less a $25.00 Staples coupon code, less a $50.00
rebate. So far, so good. It is more compact than the X brand, faster, and
quieter.
