Sooner or later, everyone will suffer a disk crash, it's almost a law of nature. I finally decided that off-premises was the way to go, and am very happy with Carbonite. Great tech support, not that you should need it.

  I know that Carbonite and most likely Mozy (and in all likelihood all other serious contenders) offer robust security and encryption (see Carbonite's Blog).  I guess the trade-off is how secure is your office or home vs. online.  I have a client who decided that it was more secure, convenient and inexpensive to drag-and-drop files to an unsecured flash drive rather than to go to an online backup.  I begged to differ, but they're the client.


  I trust them at this point, in spite of early queasiness.
