An unexpected opportunity to perform in the Champlain festival http://www.celebratechamplain.org/
has come up. I am helping my friend, Maya Apfelbaum recruit movers
for her parade unit. There are not more than 2 rehearsals planned.
This performance will be the same day as Heddy Maalem's piece, New
World. Maya is very busy recruiting and arranging logistics. mayafireart at aol.com
I've included the proposal for Maya's piece and the program for the
day. Please help me by passing this information about doing
something fun, aerobic, and different this summer, to likely people,
and of course yourself. Anyone is welcome to talk to me or contact
Maya directly for more info. This is coming up very soon; she needs
to commitments by the beginning of next week.

Mami Wata and the Flying Fish Dancers,
Mami Wata will be a very fine, very commanding and tall multicultural
water goddess who will lead the troupe. Her skirts will be made of
recycled materials including plastics and she will represent both the
beauty and power or water.
The troupe will mainly consist of a School of “Fish” portrayed in
colorful and fanciful way. The ensemble will also likely include a
giant puppet of a Short-nosed Sturgeon, an endangered prehistoric fish
that lives in the Ct. River. There will also be several water birds or
fish high up as brilliantly-costumed stilt dancers.
The Fish will move in unison in shifting directions as do actual fish
“swimming” in a “school”, only they will be flying through the air.
They will come in and out of the skirts of Mami Wata also, on signals.
When they appear from under Mami Wata’s watery gowns; they will dance
within the structure of simple score and thus perform semi-improvised
movements around her and other central figure(s) based on the
shimmering diving, hovering swimming, direction changing and leaping
movements of fish. The Movements for when the Parade is moving forward
will be different than the movemsn used for when the Parade stops,
pauses in its route/
Elements of drama incorporating local cultural and environmental
references about water and Lake Champlain will be designed into the
movements as well.
Two of my other Giant Gaia Goddess puppets will also dance as leaders,
helping herald Mami Wata and her fish and bird troupe; while also
serving as companions to Mami Wata. They are beautiful both still and
dancing and will add joy and grandeur.
