I'm conservative (paranoid you could say) with my email. I don't use a spam filter or need one (about 5 yrs with the same email), I push my website address and phone numbers. Sure, I understand your POV. It's preference. My test gmail account, that I only used privately for a few months, is catching all kinds of spam in the google spam filter. I consider that spooky since I didn't give it out to anyone but people I know. But I don't expect privacy protection form free services.
