I just downloaded the 703-page InDesign CS4 manual from Adobe, and indeed ID now has FM's cross-references, conditional text, and smart text reflow. Ironically, the manual was created on FrameMaker, not on ID. CS4 still doesn't support structured authoring, which poses a problem for help system design. It's got some annoyances, like the inability to automatically add blank pages to create even-page chapters. The biggest annoyance, though, is the nasty modal style dialogue boxes(!). Still, it's clearly Adobe's designated replacement for FrameMaker. -- Roger Williams <roger at qux.com> Chief Technical Officer, Qux Corporation 433 West Street, Suite 8, Amherst, MA 01002, USA Tel +1 413 253-6400 * Fax +1 508 302-0230 * GSM +1 508 287-1420
