I just downloaded the 703-page InDesign CS4 manual from Adobe, and indeed ID
now has FM's cross-references, conditional text, and smart text reflow.

Ironically, the manual was created on FrameMaker, not on ID.

CS4 still doesn't support structured authoring, which poses a problem for help
system design.  It's got some annoyances, like the inability to automatically
add blank pages to create even-page chapters.  The biggest annoyance, though,
is the nasty modal style dialogue boxes(!).

Still, it's clearly Adobe's designated replacement for FrameMaker.
