Izzy, You didn't say how large the hard drive is but this might be an excellent time to upgrade to a larger hard drive. You could take your old hard drive out, install the new hard drive into your laptop and send it off that way to be repaired. Then you can back up your data from you old hard drive at your leisure. I recently upgraded from a 160 GB hard drive to a 500 GB hard drive and it cost me about $70. I got my new hard drive from Tigerdirect.com (mail order) but I bet you can get one today or tomorrow at Best Buy or Staples. I imagine your hard drive is an SATA drive and it is easy enough to buy a SATA Dock to plug your old hard drive into. It can then connect to any other computer via USB port and look like an ordinary external hard drive. This is an easy do-it-yourself computer project that can be very satisfying. Give it a try! Hi Folks, I need to send my notebook to the manufacturer for repair (under warranty). They will erase the hard drive so I need to remove it and back it up before I send it. I cant turn it on because it was smoking so I need to remove the HD , copy it and put it back before sending. Can someone do this for me before Sun ?
