Verizon has the monopoly on the local, analog telephone service
infrastructure (the copper wires, etc.), so whoever you go with you are
using Verizon's wires, etc.  Also note: Verizon is doing the *least* it
can get by to maintain this infrastructure and is in the process of
getting rid of its copper infrastructure.
