The Commanding Officer of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Paul 
Stewart, will be in Springfield on January 14 to talk about the research 
conducted by the NRL and discuss ways in which area researchers and 
businesses can partner or engage with the NRL. The EDC and RTC will be 
hosting a presentation about the NRL and its opportunities for business 
or research. For those who are unaware of the NRL (www.nrl.navy.mil

engaged in both pure and applied research and product and prototype 
development across a wide range of areas from nano and bio tech to 
sensors, lasers, fluid dynamics, marine biology to studies of solar 
radiation and deep space astronomy. One description is they cover 
everything from "crabs to the Crab Nebulae". They are the 4th largest 
research institution (in terms of patents held) in the United States. 
/Much of the research they do is in partnership with other institutions 
and about 70% of the technology they develop is transferrable to the
