[Hidden-tech] Ipod as digital voice recorder

For Mac users: If all you want to do is basic editing of your recorded files
- remove dead spots, split, fade in, fade out, increase/decrease gain,
normalize gain - I can't say enough good things about Rogue Amoeba's
Fission.

Unlike GarageBand and most other audio editors, it is "loss-less" and can
edit and save in the original format including WAV, AIFF, MP3 and others.
Most other editors have to import your audio into a proprietary format -
that allows for more complex editing but also means another file to save and
additional time to import.

Fission is easy to learn, opens huge files incredibly fast (I open 1-2GB WAV
files quite regularly) and does exactly what I need for quick editing. I've
taught several non-tech oriented people, including my wife, to use it and
they love it. It's also much less daunting for the novice user than
GarageBand or Audacity.
