If you're using Mac, I recommend Garageband. I've edited more than 25 podcast episodes with Garageband, and it's pretty easy to cut out "umms" and "ahs" or other things you want to eliminate. I also use a piece of software called Levelator (free) which takes out all the high-highs and low-lows of audio recordings.
