This one isn't free, but it is great and has received rave reviews. 
Professor Layton's Curious Village. It is filled with logic puzzles, 
word problems, etc. that must be solved to move on. My grandkids 
(ages 10 and 11) have spent hours engrossed in this game on their 
Nintendo DS (I think it is also available as a PC game). There is a 
sequel out now, too.
