The Pioneer Valley PC User's Group set up a 501(c)3. I do not know who handled the initial paperwork. I did the follow up yearly reporting, which was minimal: one form and a $20 fee. The only hard part was that, since no one has a typewriter anymore, filling out the form (a downloaded PDF) was a pain. If you take the time to lay out the information to be printed in Word or some other app and print it on the form, you will save yourself a lot of annoyance for the yearly filing. My experience was similar as a financial officer for a small 501-c3 - I would not want to try to file the initial paperwork without an expert to review the specifics of the organization and make sure we set things up properly for our bylaws, records we need to keep, annual forms we need to file, and procedures for compensation & donations from officers etc. However, I was comfortable handling the annual paperwork myself once we had been walked through that the first time, for a fairly simple organization. You'd need to consider your specifics to decide if that might be appropriate for another organization. Sorry to say, but I don't know anyone to recommend in the valley as an adviser - Charlie Heath Town Websites http://townwebsites.com hosting services: http://townwebsites.us/hosting Matthias Theo wrote: > ** Be sure to fill out the survey/skills inventory in the member's > area. > ** If you did, we all thank you. > > > Jeff, > > I am an officer in an non-profit organization that filed for 501(c) 7 > status.
