Jeff, I am an officer in an non-profit organization that filed for 501(c) 7 status. We used one of the organization's members (an intellectual property lawyer) to initially file using Legal Zoom registering in the state of Delaware. Legal Zoom did not work out to be accurate or timely; you get what you pay for, I guess... Subsequently, our lawyer (and his firm) handled things directly in the state of MA. This ran much more smoothly, albeit at a higher cost. I can contact our lawyer to see if he can refer someone if you wish. However, he is located near Boston, so you may want to contact someone near the valley.
