This debate is (always) ridiculous. What's being debated? platform or OS? Which OS is better: OSX, WinXX, Linux (Red Hat, Mandrake, SuSie, etc.), BSD (etc), etc? Ridiculous question, no? How about architecture or organization? All platform/OS combos have pros/cons. It's user expertise-level that causes these debates. Anyone who knows how to manipulate their machine optimally doesn't get dragged into this quagmire (except Peter and I). I appreciate everyone trying to help Dina, but the "Mac is God" argument is unfounded. It happens to work for Dina, and I recommend it, but c'mon Mac people, get off your high-horse(s). Most graphic designers ( I know several professionally ) use Mac. Within that context, compatability is an issue, so Mac would be the way to go for Dina. I'm a software engineer (10 yrs), a musician/amateur recording engineer (15+yrs), and an electrical engineering graduate student (Ph.D. candidate) and my home desktop is a PC (Windows and Linux dual boot) and my laptop is a MacBook Pro (Windows and OSX dual boot). My main professional interest is in internet-based data management systems, my main academic interest is digital signal processing of acoustic (audio) sources, and my main personal interest is creating (recording/editing/mastering) music. That said, I 've found that it has made little difference which platform I'm on (they all have pros/cons). But, I also know the ins and outs of all my systems, because I've tailored them to my specific needs.
