I'm surprised to hear this assessment. In the high-tech field, almost all the people with whom I work use Business Wire. In reality, the two are a commodity, but from the standpoint of the intended audience (editors), "Business Wire" sounds more ...er... business-like than "PR Newswire." The latter sounds more like what it is, of course, so it's partly a mind game. But to reiterate, most of the people in the circles where I travel are using Business Wire. Now, that's for distribution services. For online databases, I use Cision, formerly known as Bacon's, which acquired MediaMap, which was the first of the media databases to specialize in the computer trade press. It's a pricey service, but very granular, great for email blasts and editorial calendar searches.
