Jonathan,

I have experience with phpBB 3 and found it to be excellent. In my
travels on the web it seems like it is used almost exclusively for
forums. I found it to be easy to setup, customize and configure, BUT
it is very substantial application at this point with LOTS of
options. With regard to ease of use, while it is, it's worth
commenting on. One of the major problems with any piece of software
that is widespread and "in the wild" on the internet is that they
ultimately come under attack. For this reason there are things that
slow down the user like "visual challenges" for sign-up and so on.
These precautions though are totally essential and just par for the
course. Having been burned by poorly maintained open source projects,
I now only work with those that are extremely active, frequently
updated and easy to update (wordpress leading the way in this regard),
and phpBB3 I think fits that bill. Also I would say that I started
using phpBB for a support site and switched ultimately to wordpress.
For my purposes it ended up fitting the bill better and creating a
better user experience. I can't say enough good about WordPress but
you'd have to see if it fit you goals and it may not.

If you need help setting it up or making a choice of products feel
free to contact us.

Best,

Wes
