[Hidden-tech] Re: pro bono work

I'd also like to add my two cents to this.

I've found that there are three times in which volunteer work works:

1. To support a favorite cause. Basically, you're donating time instead of
money.

2. To change direction. In order to prove that I can do something new --
say, take on additional management responsibilities, or move into a new line
of work -- volunteering can prove that I've got what it takes to employers
or clients.

3. If there isn't enough real work to keep me busy. Nothing gets my phone
ringing faster with real business, as over-committing myself to volunteer
projects.
