I put out a call for suggestions on free/cheap meeting space in the area.
Thanks to all who responded. Several people asked that I summarize the info
to the list. So here is a crudely cut and paste list of the responses I
received:

The Florence civic center, in downtown Florence, next to the library, is a
nice space at a modest cost.

The Florence Community Center is often overlooked, and cheap. Though not the
snazziest location.

Amherst Insurance Agency has a conference room with a private entrance that
they let business people or groups use.

Forbes Library:

If that won't work try here:

Packard's has a small room in the back called the library. I think it's
free but some food ordering is expected.

Some hotels have a board room they rent out.

One option is to join the Chamber of Commerce. Members can often schedule
time(s) to use the meeting room for their business needs. I use the one in
Northampton when I'm in a pinch.

Libraries have meeting rooms, also, and they're not used that often. Also,
the bank where you have your business account is likely to have a meeting
room or two available for its customers.

Check out shared "virtual offices" in the area.

The Hidden Tech Board meets in a quiet room at the Lord Jeff, Amherst, just
off the lobby. There is a requirement to order food and the cost is $10. I
don't know if we negotiated the cost. The advantage is that there is WiFi in
Amherst. When we meet in Northampton, it's at Packard's and they have a room
called the Library. I don't think we pay anything, but again have to order
food.

There's a community room in the Hampshire Mall I used to use a long, long
time ago. It's free, but I don't remember the contact.
