David, I'm a freelance editor/writer and quite often, while looking for my next job, I've noticed companies/individuals looking to have transcription work done. I've seen this mostly on Craigslist - so there are a lot of jobs out there. The last one I inquired about was paying $70 for a one-hour tape (which requires around three hours of work - depending on a number of things). Also, there are numerous companies out there looking for long-term transcribers. Their arrangements vary considerably. One company would take points off (and money) for almost anything and it seemed to me that by the time the person got paid, they were looking at $15 an hour. After taxes, etc., it didn't seem worth it to me. That's my limited take on it. (I've done lots of ghostwriting and have had to transcribe my own tapes, so I thought I could use this skill to fill up any of my downtime; that's how I became acquainted with what's going on in the transcription field.) Maybe others have a more informed view of it though. Robyn **************Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos.
