[Hidden-tech] pay for podcast instruction

there's lots of new media/social media stuff that HT could be educating its members about--and I don't think it's gone undeveloped because nobody's interested...

Rather, it could be that finding venues to host various classes/lectures/seminars are difficult to find. After the Media Giraffe Conference at UMass last June( http://www.mediagiraffe.org/conference.html), several of us talked about trying to gather up the local (W. Mass/northern CT/southern VT) citizen journalists for regular meetings similar to those held at the Berkman Center in Boston.

Trouble was finding the venue. UMass just didn't have the space, and none of us in the group could afford to pony up the cost of renting space.

Finding the venue was also a problem for blogger meet-ups in this region...

There's a lot going on in the new media landscape that it's mind-boggling and often times hard to keep up with. When there's a central meeting place to talk about those developmetns--like Berkman--then people get the information they need.

Berkman's unique in many ways--for its location at Harvard, for the amazing "brains" it can draw on to present info and feed the group. But we've got some amazing stuff going on here too (like out at the National Center for Tel. Technologies at STCC) and there are some of us who have strong connections to folks in various places who'd love to come out and talk with folks about what's going on...

But is there really any interest? I don't know. It's hard to tell. Or is it just that everyone's mostly interested in learning techniques--rather than exchanging information about new technology in an open environment?

  just a few thoughts....

I second the motion.
