And that 29 to 125 includes the packaging, retail mark-up, distribution
mark-up, trucking, stocking, and not to mention a long boat ride.

Here is what you can do to fix a DVD or CD player;

1. Open drawer, or cover, take a deep breath & blow into the player. There
is a laser and lens inside that often get a small speck of dust on them.
"Canned air" works better. This does cure many CD/DVD player problems.

2. Remove the cover & look for a broken or loose belt. These can be bought
for about $5. While you are there, notice the single electronics chip. How
could you have this fixed for $29? If you can't change the belt, proceed...

3. Place DVD player in scrap metal pile at dump.

Robin,

Unfortunately DVD players are disposable. You can get a new one for as
little as $29, or a top of the line one for $125. Unless this is an
industrial model costing $700 or more, you'd be better off buying a new one.
