Hi all, Here and there I'll be reporting from the arts and new media fronts where many of you know I have huge contacts from my 32 years in the media and in promoting artists and arts organizations. I have two super contacts for many of you in photography and, as I'm working on getting them some signings and speaking gigs in the region, I thought I'd pass on some information on their new books. Both were my mentors (of many). If you have space you want to promote -- PACE for example, galleries or even the building in Greenfield where some of you rent -- you should reach me directly at az at a-zinternational.com. So, here goes with two top-flight, NYC-based folks -- one a former photo editor and the other a former photographer turned author, who are now Hidden-Techies in their retirement: HAL BUELL was head of the Associated Press Global Photos for 25 years, though he was at AP for 40 years and directed many a renowned photographer, plus he brought AP into the digital world. He's got a new book out called UNCOMMON VALOR, COMMON VIRTUE: Iwo Jima and the Photograph that Captured America (Penguin Putnam), plus a 20-minute film on the making of that iconic photo. BERNARD GOTFRYD was NEWSWEEK'S top portrait photographer (and spot news) from the end of WWII until the early 1990s. He has a new book out with 144 of his most famous shots now available through a NYC bookstore. Bernie's prints of famous Jewish authors were on display at the National Yiddish Book Center about five years ago, so he's no stranger to the Valley. I'm working on a gallery show for him, but there doesn't have to be only one. Oh, and Bernie won at least two prestigious awards for his book: <http://www.amazon.com/Anton-Fancier-Other-Tales-Holocaust/dp/0801863104/sr=8-1/qid=1169483504/ref=sr_1_1/002-6581820-3698404?ie=UTF8&s=books>Anton the Dove Fancier and Other Tales of the Holocaust. Both Hal and Bernie are seasoned speakers and love to help people. Their programs would be crowd pleasers and could tie in regional book stores and galleries. Find me!
