I too use Dreamhost and have had good luck with them. The below post states that their email servers are continually down and blacklisted. I have not had any problems with the servers being "down", but they are currently (and have been) blacklisted from various ISPs like AOL, Earthlink, etc. The problem with ANY "cheap" hosting is that you are on shared servers. Odds are that you are sharing those servers with someone who will SPAM people and get the attention of a blacklist somewhere. This is the down side of the "cheap" hosting plans. This happens to most shared hosting companies at one time or another. What I REALLY like about Dreamhost is their willingness to tell their customers what is happening. You don't see that in too many hosting companies. Typically you get a "...we found a problem and solved it..." if you're lucky. Dreamhost on the other hand has an RSS feed showing system status and telling you what is actually wrong. That feed/blog is at www.dreamhoststatus.com. I moved from PowWeb to Dreamhost about 10 months ago, and have been happy with their service so far... barring the occasional blacklist issue. The solution to the blacklist is to use your ISP's SMTP server for outgoing mail. Jason A. Here's some feedback from someone who specializes in web and networking services for non-profits. While his experience differs from at least one post here on HT, it's worth contemplating. Among my colleagues, dreamhost has a bad reputation for their free hosting offers. Their pop and smtp service is frequently down, the support is nonexistant, and their servers are blacklisted. One colleague of mine has two clients on dreamhost who cannot get their mail to many recipients and the dreamhost servers are the culprit. I dont think any of these folks are necessarily getting this higher level package offered below, which could be an improvement, but I would not recommend them unless I heard better stories in the future. _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
