[Hidden-tech] Rudy on Rails

No offense meant to your friend, but there are a lot of places to go up from
PERL aside from Ruby on Rails. PERL is useful for a few specific things,
but for general web programming its greatest contribution to current web
development is that sometimes even shared hosting providers that don't want
people doing dynamic websites will support it (and before I get any hate
e-mail, yes, I know there are some things that PERL still does well, and
it's invaluable for shell scripting *nix systems, but on the balance the web
development world has moved on).

I haven't more than glanced at Ruby on Rails, so I'm not the best person to
say, but my understanding is that it does some things really, really well,
but it can be hard to break out of existing standardized functionality.
It's just not as flexible as other languages.

-Dan

While I am sure many people would like to railroad Rudy, the Ruby on

Rails programming framework is, from what I hear, awesome. My best
friend is an expert web programmer (Perl/HTML/CSS/databases/Ajax/etc.),
and since he switched from Perl to Ruby, he thinks Ruby on Rails is the
best thing since sliced bread.
