I believe in most versions of Mac OS you can unlock a folder by 
selecting the folder and then selecting Get Info (command-i).  You 
could archive photos on CD or DVD prettye qasily and get them off 
your hard drive. Also go through your attachments folder, probably 
plenty of crap there.
