[Hidden-tech] Internet Access in the sticks?

Michael,

I've lived in Goshen since 2002. We have satellite Internet from Direcway,
and this is the only broadband option residents have. I suggest you figure
out how to get a satellite dish, either by mounting it on your roof or on a
high platform/podium or by getting your neighbor to cut down the tops of
those trees.

Our satellite reception is very good, except for no longer than 20 minute
intervals during a torrential downpour. In winter, if there's heavy, wet
snow (as opposed to dry, fluffy snow), we need to go out and broom the snow
off the dish to get it to work.

At the moment, the Goshen Library has a T-1 line and wifi, but that's
because of a one-year grant and the town may not have funding to continue
it. I'm told that the wifi works if you sit in the town hall parking lot in
your car while the library is closed, and of course you're welcome to come
inside the library and use it there when the library is open, Mondays 5-9
p.m., Tuesdays 11 - 1 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. I believe Meekins
Library in Williamsburg also has wifi.
