IF YOU USE A PC: I use Symantec Ghost to backup my PC's hard drive to an external Maxtor OneTouch 250GB USB 2.0 hard drive. Ghost first creates an image of my ENTIRE hard drive. Nightly, it automagically creates incremental images of the hard drive, saving only what's changed since the last full image. If the hard drive inside my computer croaks, I can replace it, boot off the Ghost program CD, and restore the contents of my hard drive right down to the sector. No fuss, no muss, and I don't have to re-install individual applications when my Day of Reckoning comes. This method saved my bacon once already after a bad hard drive bearing caused the drive to seize - I was back up and running within two hours of receiving the new drive from Dell. Hey folks, I'm a good backer-upper, but am hampered by the fact that I'm only using DVDs, which won't hold all of my data much less an image of my hard drive. I want to get an external backup/storage device that I can use for image backups of my hard drive as well as backups of selected data (incremental type things). I'm looking for recommendations of solutions that people have: - actually used to back up in the described manner, and - actually used to restore something, ideally a trashed hard drive. I'm also interested in opinions on flash drives, especially 1 gb size. Anyone got a brand to recommend, or comments on flash drive storage in general? -- Mary Malmros malmros at verizon.net Some days you're the windshield, other days you're the bug. _______________________________________________ Hidden-discuss mailing list - home page: http://www.hidden-tech.net Hidden-discuss at lists.hidden-tech.net You are receiving this because you are on the Hidden-Tech Discussion list.
