Similar to Fred's experience, I am quite satisfied with what PayPal's 
Virtual Terminal provides.  Since PayPal is already my payment gateway 
for my online store, it was a natural extension.  All I need is my 
laptop and an Internet connection and I can take Visa, MC, Amex, and 
Discover. 

That said, I feel it is a reasonable small-business solution, but at 
larger volumes there are likely more cost-effective solutions.
