Hi Ann,

I would be happy to help, although I am not a Mac expert. First, a
question:

What is the scenario where you think ftp will be useful? Examples:

1) You have files that you want to make available to others, so you want
to run an ftp server on your Mac at home.

 ... or ...

2) You travel and you want files on your Mac at home to be available to
your laptop when you travel.

John
