[Hidden-tech] Network-eating phone

Your cordless phone is probably 2.4Ghz and is interfering with the
wireless network since both the phone and wireless access point
(Airport?) run on the same 2.4GHz frequency.

We have a similar setup in our office with a 4-line cordless
multi-handset PBX which operates at 2.4GHz. Our wireless D-Link router
also operates at 2.4GHz. The 2.4GHz specification has 11 channels which
overlap each other to vary degrees. The router can be set to a specific
channel, whereas most good 2.4GHz cordless phones will do channel
hopping automatically.

The solution we have found was to set our wireless router to one of the
channels which have the least overlap, which is channel 1 or channel 11
(we choose channel 11). So far we have not had any problems with the
wireless router dropping off while the cordless handsets are in use.

Also, make sure that your cordless phone base is located a distance away
from your wireless router and computer. The closer they are together the
more likely they'll interfere with one another.

If you are still having issues, you can downgrade to a 900MHz cordless
phone. Although these units are being phased out for the clearer 2.4MHz.

I am no expert on this subject. I am sharing what I learned while
troubleshooting our network when we added a wireless router to our network.

I hope this helps.
