The Department of Computer Science at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA has an opening for a Windows/Unix system administrator to work half time. The department's computing facilities include a Windows server, three Linux servers, and approximately 40 workstations running Windows, Linux, and MacOS. The candidate will be responsible for rearchitecting and maintaining the system as well as purchasing and installing new equipment such as a file server and backup system. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the evolving software and hardware needs of the department. Responsibilities include the following: 1. Assist with budget creation and assess long-term needs such as hardware upgrades. 2. Interface with vendors and purchase new hardware/software. 3. Install and configure new hardware and software including specialized research and classroom technology. 4. Maintain and upgrade the system. 5. Monitor and maintain system security. 6. Manage user accounts for approximately 6 faculty and 50 students. 7. Troubleshoot day-to-day problems of faculty and students. 8. Manage student lab assistant(s). 9. Assist faculty with selection of appropriate hardware/software for specific research and classroom projects where appropriate. 10. Create and maintain technical support materials including FAQs and how- tos. Qualifications: Applicants should have 3 years of experience with Windows/Linux system administration as well as a BS/MS degree or equivalent experience. In addition, applicants should have significant experience with network configuration, automated system installation, backups and restores, and maintenance of network and system security.
