A quick thanks to everyone who has posted regarding this issue. It seems that many people have experienced connection problems with Comcast, but that there were many reasons for those problems. Some people have concluded that the problem is with Comcast - either with their system or with their inability to diagnose of be up front about equipment issues. Other have had various problems they were able to diagnose related to wiring, auto-negotiation between network devices, bad cable modems, etc. I appreciate all the troubleshooting suggestions and think that they may be of assistance to others as well. It would be nice if Comcast did a better job of surveying why problems happen - including with specific models of routers - so that their tech support people could do their jobs more effectively. The techs I've talked to sometimes know from experience, but it doesn't seem like they have much of a database to work with. If we ever get a final resolution to the problem, I'll let you know! Right now it seems to be working fine, which is often the case on the weekends.
