John C. Dvorak has some very interesting takes on this subject. "WiMAX is supposed to deliver a fixed wireless broadband connection from 2 to 30 miles and, according to Business Week, "break the duopoly" of DSL and cable. I want WiMAX to work" He goes on at length about this subject and it should be of great concern to all of us in rural areas. He feels that the cable and the DSL industries are keeping the technology down - for obvious reasons, and will probably kill it eventually.
