Look at your laptop power supply. It probably says something like 100V - 240V, 50 - 60 Hz. That means it works almost everywhere if you change the plug. I have used US Compaq and IBM laptop power supplies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Iceland (220V, 50 Hz), and UK (240V 50 Hz), as well as here & Canada (120V 60Hz). A very few places in the world use much higher voltages like 380V and 440V. Japan uses 100V, 60 Hz. I have seen a 360 volt label on a heater in Newfoundland once. Plugs are available at U-Do-It electronics (Needham at 128 and Rt9) and the Radio Shack, although I have never bought them there. I just get a plug where I am, and change it. Often stores in these countries sell an adaptor plug that accecpts a US plug & converts it to the appropiate wall plug. This will work just fine IF the power supply says the voltage & frequency are OK. WARNING. DO NOT use an adaptor plug on for any appliance or lamp that doesn't have the host country's voltage & FREQUENCY on it's label. If you do smoke and a fire will result.
