Hi, Christine.

What's different about web copywriting (in addition to paragraphs
being short and scannable) is search engine optimization.

You need to repeat the keywords you are optimizing for, and
include "proximal" keywords so Google knows what kinds of search
terms to show the page for. There's a zillion resources about
how to write SEO text, and lots of implications for other aspects
of the website which the copywriter and the site developer need to
collaborate on. Read some of those!

Rob Laporte is a master at SEO and quite busy. I doubt he'd be
concerned about your competing with him, so maybe he'll chime in
      if he has the time.
Hi Christine,

Improving all the wording is generally known as copywriting - or
        writing/editing marketing copy.

However, when you speak with clients it's best to simply talk
about the benefit to them - that you'll be improving the wording
to make a better business impression and bring them more
        business.
