<p>I have used Opensrs (used to be called TuCows) for almost 20
years.<br>
<br>
They are an independent registrar reseller -- which means you can
be a reseller for them<br>
(disclaimer - I've handed over 2,000 domains as a reseller over
the years)</p>
<p>and there are a number of public resellers like Hover<br>

<br>
Note: many hosting companies include domain registrations in
their deals,<br>
which is great until they change their hosting policies or prices,
crater<br>
or are bought by (usually) GoDaddy.<br>
<br>
Not worth saving $10-20/yr for the hassle of having to recover
your domain.<br>
Also we've helped a number of locals having domain issues, esp

<p class="MsoNormal">Yes, Nitwit Solutions. Ever since other
registrars started popping up, they've been working very hard
to keep people paying 3x as much for a domain to no apparent
benefit, and then expanding their "services" with the same
playbook. Over the years they've gotten subtler about their
manipulations but still quite toxic. I'm very sorry to hear
your client had that experience, it's a different version of
the same story I've heard many times. Definitely stay away.
Register.com is similarly toxic, and GoDaddy also uses a
similar if somewhat less egregious playbook. I've wasted too
many hours of my life helping clients get away from these
guys.<br>

<p>Despite their history of being the first Registrar (they're
the for-profit spin-off of the original Internic, the
non-profit that managed all the domains starting in the
1990s), they are hands down the worst one out there. It's so
bad that even if you want to transfer your domain name away,
you need to click an extra two "are you sure" yes buttons,
then they tell you they will review your request and you may
get an email in three days with your Auth Code. I mean...
WTH?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p>Funny thing about the Internic, for those of you who may
not remember or been around in those days, back then you
would go to their website, fill out a long form, which would
send you an email. You would have to then reply to that
email (I guess that was how they verified you were real?)
and then you had to wait a week for their reply email to see
if you were the person who got the domain name, at which
point you needed to print the email and mail it to them with
a check for $75. Yes. And that's about $150 in today's
dollars. The whole thing took two weeks. It was brutal.
Network Solutions is their legacy.<o:p></o:p></p>
