hard drive specialist not really needed.

If it's a typical hard drive only a small bit of technical
skills, that with a screwdriver is needed.
Just remove the hard drive - probably a 2 1/2 inch drive and get a
USB drive adapter kit (about $25)
and it will plug into your current system where you can get to
everything on the drive.

Depending on what you looking for and you share time (you have
some now right ?)
It just takes some hunting to find everything.

This the adapter I used last year: M.2 SATA SSD to USB 3.0
External SSD Reader Converter Adapter Enclosure
The kit even includes the screwdriver.

You need to do a little research as to the exact drive type --
they are pretty well marked once you take it out of the case.

If this is too much complexity, more about finding what you want
on the drive, than the hw work - most tech shops can handle the
work.
My laptop died a few weeks ago, and I'd like to recover the
files on the hard drive. Unfortunately my backup external is
also not taking power and is essentially unusable. I don't
believe the drive is corrupted though.
