<div dir="ltr">Adam,<br><br>Carbonite is still excellent for single computer backup. Backblaze is also a solid option.<br><br>For network attached storage, if your router has a USB attachment you could purchase a single large external and connect it to that. That said, redundancy is always better. I encourage folks to look at Synology or Buffalo NAS devices. They are easily upgradable and modular. The 2 disk versions I would recommend setting up in RAID 1 (mirror) which requires 2 large drives (2x8tb drives to have 8tb storage). The 4 disk versions you can setup with 3 or 4 drives in a RAID 5 array, the RAID 5 setup means you effectively get to make use of 2/3 of the total disk space of all the 3-4 disks combined (aka 3x6tb Drives would net you 12gb of storage), you get a little speed increase but also redundancy (can lose one disk and still run). The ability to increase the drive size down the line in boxes like this is really valuable, I know people still making good use of older synology and buffalo NAS enclosures with newer larger drives. <br><br>Of course systems like that are a bit more expensive, but often well worth it in the long run!<br><br>Hope that helps!<div><br></div><div>Thanks,<br clear="all"><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div style="margin:0px 0px 8px"><p style="font-size:13px;font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;margin:0px">Kiernan Gulick-Sherrill</p><p style="font-size:13px;font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;margin:0px">Pronouns: He/Him<br>Green Earth Computers - Computer & Smartphone Repair</p><p style="font-size:13px;font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;margin:0px">20A Crafts Ave</p><p style="font-size:13px;font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;margin:0px">Northampton, MA 01060</p><p style="font-size:13px;font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;margin:0px"><a href="http://www.greenearthpc.us/" target="_blank">www.greenearthpc.us</a><br><span><span title="Call with Google Voice"><span title="Call with Google Voice"><span title="Call with Google Voice"><span title="Call with Google Voice"><span title="Call with Google Voice">413-282-8324</span></span></span></span></span></span></p><p style="font-size:13px;margin:0px"><span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Arial,"Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,"Liberation Sans",FreeSans,sans-serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px"><span style="font-size:13px;color:rgb(38,50,56);font-family:Roboto,Arial,sans-serif"><br></span></span></p><p style="margin:0px"><span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Arial,"Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,"Liberation Sans",FreeSans,sans-serif;font-size:16px;line-height:24px">See what people are saying -- </span><span style="font-size:16px;color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Arial,"Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,"Liberation Sans",FreeSans,sans-serif;line-height:24px">Check us out on <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/green-earth-computers-northampton-4" target="_blank">Yelp!</a> </span><br></p></div><div><span style="border-collapse:collapse;color:rgb(102,102,102);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px"></span></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sat, Jun 13, 2020 at 11:13 AM Adam Bauer via Hidden-discuss <<a href="mailto:hidden-discuss@lists.hidden-tech.net">hidden-discuss@lists.hidden-tech.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div style="overflow-wrap: break-word;"><div>Hello fellow HT’ers,</div><div>I have three questions, and while I know these are occasionally covered here, I am asking them from my current perch because a) I’ve been digging through my HT email archives and can’t find relevant recent responses, and b) I know things and technology changes, so I am trying to stay current. </div><div><br></div><div>1) I’m having issues with my Apple Time Capsule no longer doing auto-backups (and being too small now, in any case), so I need to find a preferred external drive (4TB or larger) to set up for wireless, automatic Time Machine backups.
