I don't recommend what I plan, but some people may be encouraged that there are plenty who, like me, will ignore this totalitarian BS. 52 pages of instructions; more crushing of small business; betting the new administration will nix it. Given how the US justice system has been abused in the last few years, I'll stand my ground on this one.

FYI sole proprietorships don't need to fill out:
*C. 6. Is a sole proprietorship a reporting company?*
No, unless a sole proprietorship was created (or, if a foreign sole
proprietorship, registered to do business) in the United States by filing a
document with a secretary of state or similar office. An entity is a
reporting company only if it was created (or, if a foreign company,
registered to do business) in the United States by filing such a document.
Filing a document with a government agency to obtain (1) an IRS employer

professional or occupational license does not create a new entity, and

This CPA has a balanced view: The BOI Reporting Nightmare Isn't Over

And I agree it's easier to just do it - it took me about 20 min, more 
reading than actually entry.
We are an LLC with 2 members -- so just beyond sole proprietorship.

Just FYI to everyone.

My attorney just called me. Apparently, over the weekend, Financial 
/Crimes/ Enforcement Network (FinCEN) agreed with the court, and filing 
is now voluntary.

I'm guessing, given this, that most people who have not filed will now 
not file.

And have followed directions to not require it

AND it still wants it - tried lots of diff machines/browsers to make 
sure not cache issue.

I'm wondering if any of you have had any experience with a platform called "Gain Rep"?  It seems on the surface to be a networking app, like LinkedIn, but my experience with it makes me think there is something very sketchy going on.

 

I received an invitation to join this network from a casual acquaintance, and thought why not, so I clicked and said yes.   But shortly thereafter, I began getting lots of emails from folks who had received "invitations" ostensibly from me.  Some of these people were people I barely knew; others were friends and professional acquaintances.  Many of them wanted to know whether I had actually sent this "invitation," which I absolutely had not.   (I wish I had checked with the person I received my "invitation" from -- it turns out she herself had been victimized in the same way I had.)

 

I am spending about an hour a day writing apologies and explanations, and I'm sick of it.  (Plus I'm very upset that so many people are being bothered with this!). I have tried to get myself off of the platform, but the website doesn't really explain how -- one has to "sign in" to one's "network" and I am loathe to give it any more information or encouragement.  I don't know what the scam is, how they got into my contacts list, and what they are trying to accomplish, but I've decided that something stinks

 

If anyone knows anything about this, and especially if anyone knows how to sever connections with it, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

A reply in the Reddit thread offers this method for cleaning up.  I can't
vouch for them, please proceed carefully if you try this:

If you logged in with Google, here are next steps:


Log in to Gainrep: https://www.gainrep.com This feels counterintuitive, but
without logging in, you can?t stop it from emailing your contacts, even if
rescind access on your Google Account. Be sure to log in with the same
Google account as you did when making an account.


Navigate to connections and find the queue of emails at the top. Click
?queue? and delete all. This stops the website from continuing to spam your
contacts after you delete your account.


Navigate to settings, scroll down, unsubscribe from all emails, then delete
your account. It will ask you to retype your name as confirmation. I also
changed my name to "Does Not Exist" along the way, as a bonus.


Rescind Google account access by logging into your Google account security
portal: https://myaccount.google.com/ Navigate to Security, scroll down to
Your Connections to Third Party Apps & Services, click on GainRep and
delete.
