[Hidden-tech] using simple markups in text files for import into InDesign

Hoping to find some experts out there with long documents in InDesign
who might know something about how to construct text files with markup
for footnotes and indices that will import into InDesign. If that's not
possible, what is the easiest way of dealing with the construction of
footnotes and indices in long documents. I'm doing most of the writing
work in LibreOffice and expect to save that out as text files. I would
hate to have to start from scratch building those elements in InDesign.
I expect to have more than one index as well as more than one table of
contents for a historical piece of work going well over 100,000 words.
I'm familiar with the markup used in Wikipedia for building references
and re-using those references by name as well as referencing other
articles, etc. Something like that would be really nice. My Google Foo
completely fails me, and it doesn't seem to be the sort of thing that
ChatGPT can answer.
Thank you,
