Often apps like expense tracking are essentially spreadsheets (or basic databases) with a front end and a price tag on top. Over the years, I've found that even my intermediate Google Sheets skills are sufficient to make a good app, with or without starting from a free or really cheap Sheets or Excel template. Just a thought. Conditional formatting and data filters can be incredibly helpful in any Sheets use, and contextual help these days usually illustrates my quip, "We all know everything; it's just a question of how many search clicks." Broadening the topic, at my firm for ~2 years now I've been structuring all folders/files such that even fairly complex procedures are guided right at the site of action, so that a good general tech user needs minimal training nor the need to click off to a separate instruction doc. Lots of labor up front, but medium- and long-term cost savings for sure, sometimes short-term as well. I am thinking about things like mileage loggers for a cell phone, or integrations with existing services (QuickBooks, business credit cards) that simplify your record keeping and budgeting.
