Hi Joan, We have extensive experience working with intellectual property attorneys throughout the country, including for patent prosecution, trademarks, licensing and litigation. Trademarks seem simple on the surface, however they are a tricky area of the law. In practice, this may not matter for many small businesses who are unlikely to need to defend their IP, however if your trademark is truly important, then your hunch is correct. You will want to secure the services of an attorney who specializes in trademarks. Although there are many excellent trademark attorneys in the commonwealth, one attorney (and small firm) that I've had consistently excellent experiences with is Brenda Ulrich of Archstone Law Group: https://www.archstonelaw.com/attorneys/brenda-ulrich/ (I have no vested interest and only know Brenda from her work; met her once.) Cost will be higher, of course, however the cost of a mistake means possibly losing all the rights you've invested in. Also, talk with an attorney, but you may not even need a registered trademark at all.
