All battery testers do is test the battery voltage. Depending on the discharge curve, which depends on the battery's chemistry, this may or may not give you much of an idea of the *percentage* of "charge" left. Eg batteries with a linear dischage curve will give you a better level of charge from the voltage. Some batteries maintain a good voltage, up until just before they go dead -- eg the curve is like a cliff and actually this is prefered from the point of view of what you are powering, but makes things harder to tell the difference between 80% charged and 20% charged. Generally, it is not really possible to get much more info about the battery from a tester.
